Urgent iManage Advisory for Work Desktop 10.x

$

0

On June 9th, iManage released a critical advisory (login required) regarding their Work 10 Desktop for Windows client application. The issue stems from a local certificate within the application that is set to expire on June 27th, 2020. Some builds of 10.x have a bit of a longer runway with an expiration of October 3, 2020. However, the most recent builds are the ones that expire within the next couple weeks. Once the certificate expires, core functionality such as checking out and editing documents will no longer function as expected.

See below for details regarding exactly which builds are affected.

Versions Affected
(Yes or No)
Date and time of certificate expiration
(In GMT time)
10.2.3.x – 10.2.6.105 Yes June 27, 2020 23:59:59 GMT
10.1.x – 10.2.2.x Yes October 3, 2020 23:59:59 GMT
10 – 10.0.2.x No No action required
Table of Affected Builds (Source: help.imanage.com)

To resolve the issue, action must be taken prior to June 27th. iManage released a manual patch, which is available to be downloaded at the advisory page. Instructions are provided, but this patch is meant as a simple manual fix that requires several processes to be killed and two individual files to be replaced. iManage also released an automated method of patching that requires an updated configuration file be uploaded to the iManage Control Center, and then a client-side executable be run.

All that said, the recommended fix is to upgrade the Work Desktop Client to the latest build 10.2.6.107 (as of June 10th). This new build is available for download here from iManage directly (login required).

Please reach out hello@kraftkennedy.com if your firm needs any assistance packaging and deploying this new build to resolve this issue.

iManage Announces End-of-Life for DeskSite, FileSite and IDOL Indexer

This week, iManage announced an End-of-Life date for DeskSite and FileSite clients as well as the IDOL Work Indexer.  These products have long been a mainstay at many firms for many years. But it’s time to start letting go and embracing the more modern Work 10 client experience. Fortunately, iManage provided a nice runway to provide customers with plenty of time to plan the required upgrades and retire these legacy products:

  • iManage DeskSite
  • iManage FileSite
  • iManage OffSite
  • Email Management for Outlook and the Outlook MOdule (9.x version)
  • iManage Express Search and Miner
  • iManage DealBinder Add-On
  • iManage IDOL Indexer

The products listed above are now considered to be in “maintenance mode”, before switching to “end of support” after June 30, 2023 and finally, “end of life” after December 29, 2023.

As a reminder, iManage defines the various levels of product support as follows:

Maintenance Mode: no new enhancements, new platform support or features will be added to these products. Software fixes or patches will only be issued for Priority 1 (P1) and security or data corruption level issues as defined by our support policies.

End of Support: iManage will continue to take support requests related to the 9.x versions of iManage DeskSite, FileSite, and classic client add-ons and modules listed above until June 30, 2023. Beginning July 1, 2023, iManage will only take support requests related to the iManage Work Desktop for Windows and iManage Work Desktop for Mac applications.

End of Life: All support articles, documentation, and software downloads for the retired components and historical versions of the applications listed above will be removed from iManage Help Center (help.imanage.com) after December 29, 2023.

What does this mean for you?

This announcement means that you should start planning your next desktop build to include the Work 10 Desktop client. You will likely need to confirm that all of your third-party integrations (such as PDF utilities, Document Comparison utilities, Template/DocID Stamping utilities) are upgraded and fully compatible with the Work 10 client. You may want to consider some end-user training to introduce and teach users about the newer modern Work 10 client interface.

In order to deploy the latest Work 10 client, you also need to be running the latest Work 10 backend components — whether that is on-premise or in the iManage Cloud.  So if you are still running Work 9.x servers, the time to plan that upgrade is now.

This also means that if you are still running the Work IDOL Indexer, you should start planning either a move to iManage Cloud or an upgrade to the RAVN Indexer in the next year — giving you plenty of time before the end of 2023.

Please contact Kraft Kennedy if you need assistance in these endeavors.

iManage On-Prem Data Exfiltration Vulnerability

Yesterday, iManage announced a new critical data exfiltration security vulnerability in their on-premises iManage Work Server builds.  All Work Server versions 9.4, 9.5, and 10.x versions are vulnerable. However, if you are not running 10.2.2.260 or later, iManage does strongly recommend upgrading to at least this build to resolve previous known vulnerabilities.

The following steps can be performed to remediate the vulnerability:

  1. Sign in as an administrator to the server running Work Server.
  2.  Download the allow_list_patch.zip file from the end of this advisory and extract the contents.
  3. Copy  _iman_allow.conf  the extracted archive into the appropriate directory based on your Work Server version.
  4. Restart Work Server to apply the new configuration.
  5. Repeat Steps 1–4 for each Work Server in your on-premises environment.

The allow_list_patch.zip file is available for download from the Advisory Bulletin on the iManage Help Center.

Please contact Kraft Kennedy if you need assistance..

iManage Advisory: Work 10 Desktop Certificate Expires June 4, 2022

iManage recently published an advisory that for those running Work Desktop 10.1 through 10.6, a certificate used by https://my.imanlocal.com is set to expire on June 4, 2022.

To avoid issues

It is advised to either upgrade to Work Desktop 10.7, or apply the following registry key which will reconfigure the Work Desktop to avoid using the my.imanlocal.com address:

For x86 clients, registry key location:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\iManage\Work\10.0\Client\Agent

For x64 clients, registry key location:  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\iManage\Work\10.0\Client\Agent

DWORD Name: SecuredLocalHost

DWORD Value: 0

If you are running Work Desktop prior to 10.2.4.71 or Work Web prior 10.2.6.61, an upgrade to at least these versions is needed to support the SecuredLocalHost registry key workaround.

Action Required if running Outlook 2013 on iManage Work Communication Servers

Action Required if running Outlook 2013 on iManage Work Communication Servers
Issue

Microsoft announced the end of support and updates for Microsoft Office 2013 as of April 11, 2023. As a result, any iManage customers running Outlook 2013 on the iManage Work Communications Server for Exchange (WCSE) will be impacted after the April 11, 2023 cutoff.

Background

The iManage Work Communications Server for Exchange (WCSE) requires a 32-bit installation of Microsoft Outlook, formally supporting versions of Outlook up to and including Outlook 2016. Microsoft Outlook 2019 and later aren’t formally supported by the WCSE due to those installers only being made available in click-to-run versions.

The WCSE uses COM interfaces registered by the Outlook MSI installer to make MAPI calls required for converting .eml files to .msg. Out of the box, click-to-run versions don’t register the required COM interfaces. These COM interfaces are required for all WCSE Components except Mailbox Synchronization (Email filing, Mapped Folders, Send and File).

Action

As an immediate workaround, customers should upgrade to Outlook 2016 32-bit, or contact iManage Support regarding a temporary workaround if a 32-bit version of Outlook 2019, Outlook 2021, or Outlook 365 are the only options available.  This temporary workaround approach involves manually copying an out-of-the-box registry value from one location to another, which exposes the interfaces needed by the WCSE.

Longer term, all customers are encouraged to move to Work 10 Desktop’s Client-side email filing architecture as soon as possible.  Please contact us if any assistance is needed as you transition to Client-side email filing with the Work 10 Desktop.
